Interesting Drupal in the public sector article

Posted Wed, 21st Jul 2010 by Adaptive
Really interesting article here about Drupal in the public sector. There is obviously a strong US bias in the article but many of the requirements and standards are similar to those in the UK. There's some very high profile sites in the public sector now using Drupal including: The White House US Senate US Army US Department of Education French government (main portal) City of London US Department of Commerce New Zealand‘s Ministry for the Environment World Bank United Kingdom Datastore (data.... An interesting article here."The focus is on open source software and the publication of government data and the coalition also says steps will be taken to "open up government procurement and reduce costs"." [Read full post]

UK public data "tsunami"

Posted Wed, 23rd Jun 2010 by Adaptive
The UK Government and Sir Tim Berners-Lee have announced that they're being true to their word in making British Government leaders in transparency. The (technical) background to this policy make may little sense to the public in general but the outputs and usage of this data will be of interest to everyone. Microsoft - your days are numbered

Posted Tue, 08th Jun 2010 by Adaptive
Dan says.... As time goes by, I found myself relying less and less on Microsoft technology. I only use Windows Vista (have Win7 upgrade but dare not install it) on my desktop because of a few apps that I quite like - there's equivalents available for Mac or Linux but I'm too lazy to change at the moment. When I replace my PC, it will likely be Ubuntu or.... dare I say it..... Mac. I have dropped Outlook completely as it just didn't do what I needed it to do. The search was awful, it crashed a... Using Drupal as an Intranet platform

Posted Tue, 06th Apr 2010 by Adaptive
We had an interesting conversation with a potential customer recently. They were considering three options for their relatively large-scale Intranet. The options were Microsoft Sharepoint, Drupal and a proprietary Microsoft-based Intranet. We disclosed our Drupal-bias but like to think our summary of the risks and benefits was reasonable. We feel that Sharepoint is extremely hard, from a developers point of view, to work with. Simple changes can take considerable time. The other factor is that... [Read full post]

The iPad - the saviour of newspapers?

Posted Tue, 06th Apr 2010 by Adaptive
Dan says.... Disclaimer - I'm an iPhone/iPad fanboy. I'm very open about it and my parents don't have an issue with it at all - this is the 21st century after all.... There is quite a lot of talk about the iPad being the saviour of the newspaper industry - I don't buy that for a minute. I don't see the logic behind the reasoning the that iPad will suddenly change things for the newspaper industry. The problem with newspapers isn't the media they're distributed on - the problem isn't just that... [Read full post]

New website launched

Posted Fri, 26th Mar 2010 by Adaptive
We're just putting the finishing touches to our new website. All of our business has always been word-of-mouth but our old site didn't really represent what we are or what we do so here's the new one that does.... a bit at least! We'll blog occasionally but only if it's interesting or relevant - there's little point in talking techno babble on here as we're not trying to appeal to other development companies. :) A few sections from the old site have gone and the content on the new site will be...
