We're really pleased to see the relaunch of Natural England's Walking for Health website spring into life today.
Adaptive have hosted and maintained the original version of the Walking for Health website for a number of years and were Natural England's top choice for providing an updated, enriched version of the site when the project was put out to tender earlier in the year.
The project will take place in a number of phases, with phase one being to replicate the existing site in Drupal, providing a brighter, cleaner front-end design together which a much more intuitive, flexible and easy-to-use content management system. The results were launched today and have already been received very well, both by the team at Natural England and site visitors alike.
The site also integrates the organisation's previously-separate Learning Network content, a repository of useful documents, presentations and other training material accessible solely to relevant members of the WfH team and associated partners.
Walking for Health website manager, Dan Kemp, has worked closely with the team at Adaptive over the past couple of months to deliver phase one of the development. Dan said: "The WfH website was long due a redesign. We've taken both the old Learning Network website (built in 2001) and the current WfH website (built in 2007) and combined them into one new, fresh, modern website."
Adaptive have now begun work on the second phase of the project, which is to add enhanced functionality to the site. The will include a number of improvements to the WalkFinder service on the site, which enables users to search for organised health walks in their local area.
Developments will include viewing multiple walks on Google maps, providing additional details about the walks and extending the current postcode search facility to be able to search by other address parts such as district or town/city.
Adaptive Operations Manager Steve Allen said: "We've enjoyed a great relationship with WfH for a number of years so were delighted to be awarded the job of redeveloping the website for them. It's been one of those websites that we've said for a number of years is just perfect for Drupal.
"The flexibility of the Drupal CMS has enabled us to provide a large amount of high-spec functionality at a low cost in line with the organisation's budget. It's great to see phase one of the redevelopment live and being appreciated by visitors. We're now looking forward to getting our teeth into phase two where we'll bringing in a host of additional features include a number of Google Maps-related functions for the WalkFinder service."
