Case Study: New Drupal sites launched for Visit Lichfield and Lichfield BID
Kiel Bull

The new Adaptive-built Visit Lichfield website has recently launched as part of the rebranding of the tourism organisation.

Adaptive have provided Drupal support services to the Visit Lichfield team, part of Lichfield District Council, since 2014, supporting and maintaining their previous Drupal 6 site. We were therefore delighted to have been commissioned last year to build a brand new version of the website in Drupal 8.

The new site features a design by Adaptive, created as a fully responsive custom Drupal theme. The site features listings for accommodation, attractions and events as well as shops, restaurants and café, with each area of the website is enabling visitors to browse and search for what they’re looking for in various ways.

The Drupal 8 build includes multi-site functionality delivered via the Drupal Domains module, which has enabled us to also provide a new website for fellow local organisation, Lichfield BID, as part of the same Drupal build.

Key challenges overcome during the project included the need to migrate various complex content types and their data from the old Drupal 6 site into the new site. The Visit Lichfield team were also working on their new overall brand in parallel with the website development, prompting a change of design for the site during the latter phases of development.

The new Visit Lichfield website successfully launched in the last week of June, with the Lichfield BID site following in July. See the new sites at www.visitlichfield.co.uk and www.lichfieldbid.co.uk.
