FC Business Intelligence (FCBI) are an international business providing renowned events and conferences around the world. Their sector-specific brands cover a broad range of subjects, from travel and pharmaceuticals to a variety of energy-related sectors.
In addition to their events, FC also provide news and information portals tied to the sectors they operate in as well as in-depth research delivered as whitepapers and reports. A number of their sector websites also host large amounts of in-depth audio and video content, available via a subscription system.
Since 2013, we have been providing support and development for FC's portfolio of Drupal-based news and information portals. Initially starting with a portfolio of 14 sites, this grew to a peak of 21 sites in 2016.
We were originally approached by FCBI’s Chief Technical Officer, Martin Styles, after several years of frustration in trying to find a suitable agency that could provide the levels of support, knowledge, initiative and response that was required for the project.
With a sizeable portfolio of sites to maintain, FCBI needs to be able to trust their agency to look after things on their behalf and to suggest solutions and best practice ideas to be used across each of their websites.
When FCBI first came to us, they were having particular problems with the stability and performance on a number of their key websites, with sites/servers going down far too frequently. Through a series of audits and investigations, we were able to swiftly identify and resolve the issues causing this and, as a result, the stability of all sites was greatly improved.
After supporting their original Drupal 6 sites for a year, in 2014 we began a roll out programme to rebuild each of the sites in Drupal 7, improving the design and UI and making the sites responsive.
We also integrated a number of the new sites with multimedia platform, Ramp (now Cxense), enabling audio and video content to become searchable by text and providing a valuable additional resource of conference material and other audio/video to their subscribers. As part of this, we also built a series of custom Drupal modules to deliver both the Ramp integration and a subscription workflow linked into Salesforce via their APIs.
Since 2015, we have also provided the hosting environment for all of FCBI’s Drupal sites via Amazon Web Services (AWS). The AWS account was set up in FCBI’s name, so they retain full ownership of it, and Adaptive provide ongoing proactive support and maintenance of the whole hosting environment.
We continue to work closely in partnership with FCBI – both with their technical team and with site editors and marketing managers within the individual sectors – to support and further develop their Drupal sites.
“We had struggled to find Drupal developers with the right balance of resources to pro-actively lead on new projects, whilst maintaining their ability to react to the daily updates and amendments our existing sites require. In both of these respects Adaptive have, and continue to deliver excellent results"
Martin Styles - Chief Technical Officer, FC Business Intelligence
